Between Heaven and Hell - Chapter 1: The Past.
I will never forget that day. I can still hear Jake's voice when he said he loved me. I can still see the eyes of the Demon and I can still smell the blood.
It was meant to be a normal day in November. Jake and I were planning to visit his older brother in the village next to ours. We walked to school, hand in hand, just like every day. When we arrived, I could already smell them. They're awful smell. Pure blood was dripping of them. When I saw them, I couldn't scream. I was so scared, I couldn't do anything. I remember Jake's eyes. He was scared too.
There were dead bodies everywhere. I heard a little girl scream. At the left a Demon was bend over a boy's body and he ripped out his heart. The boy screamed. There were so many screams. I looked away and Jake pushed me away from the screaming boy. "Run.". Was the only word he said to me. I refused to leave him behind, so I stayed. Abandoned ChapelThe parish waits now,
the loneliness of corners
crawling outward on walls--
chipped away by the wind,
and held together
by silk spindles;
cobwebs align them like the membranes of memories,
the cut of a jewel in an broken window
against the sun
where beads of rain
gather in a mesh of strands
a new Mosaic
against the backdrop of a cemetery;
My eyes seek out the sermon
in close proximity,
paint no distance
between headstone and cloud;
elegies topple each other
in their climb to heaven
as light trickles
over the shade,
breathes a new glow over snuffed candles.
I feel the weight in these empty rows,
how a breath couldn't cease to be breath
in the midst of prayer.
